Two goals in four minutes see Eibar tighten grip on eighth spot

The Armeros broke the deadlock in the second half in what was a very cagey affair

Goals from Kike García and Sergi Enrich on 62' and 66' handed Eibar victory in an encounter that had come to a real standstill and which Leganés had bossed up until Eibar made the breakthrough.

This triumph sees the Armeros cement their hold on eighth spot and gives them a four-point cushion over ninth-placed Espanyol.

Leganés, fully aware of the significance of the game, came out looking to shackle the hosts and get on the front foot, which they managed to do throughout the opening 45 minutes.  José Luis Mendilibar's charges, meanwhile, really struggled to make any inroads into the visitors' area but weren't unduly troubled in defence either.

The Madrilienians best chance of the game came on 43', when Florian Lejeune was forced to clear Miguel Ángel Guerrero's headed effort from under the bar.

After the interval, the whole complexion of the game changed as a result of a double substitution which saw Anaitz Arbilla and Sergi Enrich enter the fray.

With 62 minutes on the clock, a sublime David Juncà cross from the left flank was expertly glanced home by Kike García, with the Eibar striker succeeding in breaking down Leganés's defensive wall.

Just four minutes later, David Juncà claimed a second assist when he put Sergi Enrich clean through on goal with a fine pass and the Eibar marksman slotted the ball beneath the onrushing Iago Herrerín.

By this stage, the game was all but beyond the Los Pepineros' reach, but the visitors didn't crumble and went on to carve out several opportunities to have halved the deficit, most notably when Miguel Ángel Guerrero saw his driven effort cannon back off the upright in the 68th minute.

This win sees Eibar end their three-game scoreless streak, and despite having slipped further behind in the race for a European spot over the last week, Mendilibar's men remain in eighth, which represents a very attractive end-of-season target and one which would cap off a superb campaign.
