SD Eibar defeated by the New York Cosmos on penalties in the last game of the season
The gunsmiths ended their US tour with a defeat by the Cosmos, drawing 2-2 (7-6) but then losing on penalties
The Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas was the venue for Eibar´s last match of the season and the game also marked the end of their first international tour, which saw them travel to the United States.
The gunsmiths gave their opponents no time to react at the start of the match, with Gonzalo Escalante scoring the first goal just after a miss from the wing executed by Keko. Just five minutes later, Antonio Luna slipped a long shot past the goalkeeper and hit the back of the net. The New York Cosmos didn´t want to leave empty-handed after the first half, and Duk scored a header in the eleventh minute, seeing off Asier Riesgo.
In the second half, the New York Cosmos made changes to the team on the pitch and managed to equalise 2-2 thanks to Arrieta´s pass from the wing which was headed by Duk. From that moment on, Eibar tried to avoid a penalty shoot-out without success. Lillo, Antonio Luna, Borja Bastón and Dani García managed to score, but Cosmos eventually took the lead with a shot from David Diosa, which left the score at 5-4 to the New York Cosmos after penalties.
During half-time, Raúl González, an ambassador for LaLiga World, appeared at the match alongside representatives from the New York Cosmos and SD Eibar, who had been attending an institutional reception at Las Vegas City Hall in the afternoon.
Eibar´s first international tour ended without a victory from either of the two friendlies played, but the team leave with a good taste in their mouths and end the season feeling secure. It has also been a historic moment for a club that has enjoyed an international tour for the first time ever and met with its shareholders and supporters in person.
