REPORT. Eibar kick off the second half of the season with a convincing win (2-0)
A first-half goal from Stoichkov and another from Aketxe in the second half secured the three points for the Armeros, who are back in the play-off places
Eibar kicked off the second half of the season with a 2-0 win over Racing Santander thanks to a Stoichkov header in the first half and an Ager Aketxe penalty in the second.
With this victory, Joseba Etxeberria's team overtake tonight's opponent in the standings and move back into the play-off places.
After the first few minutes, in which Racing had the upper hand, Eibar took control of the game and began to make dangerous inroads into their opponents' area. In the 8th minute, Aketxe headed Ríos Reina's cross just wide.
It didn't take long for the first goal to arrive. In the 10th minute, another Ríos Reina ball from the left was headed into the net by Stoichkov, who headed back across goal.
In the 39th minute, the visitors' goalkeeper prevented Eibar's second goal with a save to deny Jon Bautista after an outstanding attacking move by Eibar.
The second half began with a clear-cut chance for the home side when Matheus' left-footed shot crashed against the crossbar.
The Santander side tried to take control of the game and create danger, but they found themselves up against a compact Eibar side who hardly conceded a chance.
In the 83rd minute, Ager Aketxe scored from the penalty spot after the Armeros had been awarded a clear penalty following an outstanding individual move.
The three points break the streak of four games without a win and they mean Eibar start the second round of fixtures in the best way.
