Asier Riesgo renews his contract with SD Eibar up to June 2018
The goalkeeper Asier Riesgo, whose contract ran until June this year, has renewed his contract with SD Eibar up to June 2018
Riesgo, who joined Eibar from Osasuna, has started every league game this season, except for the first match against Granada, which he could not play due to a suspension he received last season.
Asier Riesgo, born in Deba (Gipuzkoa) 32 years ago, has played 136 games in the First Division and 71 in the Second since his debut with Real Sociedad in the 2004-2005 season. With them, he played 5 seasons in the First Division, plus another five with Osasuna and one more on loan to Recreativo de Huelva.
After training today at Atxabalpe, Asier Riesgo said he is “very happy” to renew his contract with a club that “has given me confidence, the chance to return to play in the First Division.”
“It’s what I have always wanted from the beginning. I came for a year, the club wanted me to renew for two more years and I am very happy,” he added.
Riesgo emphasised the fact the Eibar is a different club because of “its essence, very humble, with its village mentality. It is different playing in Ipurua. For us, playing in this ground and for this club is special.”
“The club understands this and tries to make sure that everyone who comes here feels that closeness of the town and the club. This year is going great and that also helps,” he added.
The goalkeeper from Deba stressed that in the sporting sense “things are going very well but we know that in the First Division it is very difficult to win any match. The current situation gives us the peace of mind to be able to go game by game and keep adding to the points total so that we can stay in the First Division.”
“I’ve been in football for many years, and I know that it has its ups and downs. We had a really tough year in Osasuna and this year is just the opposite, with everything going well. You have to bear in mind the fact that things can change at any time.”
